R U Stressed? Not After Reading This

By Kyle Tortorelli on February 20, 2017

We all cope with stress in different ways. This can range from reading that newly purchased book to hitting the closest bar. College is a very stressful period of one’s life so it is useful to know the various ways that peers deal with all the things that life throws their way.

Stress is something that occurs naturally, no one can help it. When life starts to boil up, there are always people around to help cool it down. The great thing about being in such a highly populated area such as New Brunswick means that there is always something to do.

For starters and students under the age of 21, there are productive activities to do while on campus. There is always studying and reading. This is a smart choice because you are paying for college so you might as well as take advantage of all of the resources your tuition pays for.

I was curious as to how some of my peers deal with stress while stuck on campus.

Loana Mendez – Solano, a classmate of mine and fellow senior at Rutgers University – New Brunswick, told me that to deal with stress, she “tends to make time for [herself]. Do what [she] wants for a few hours, which could be something as simple as taking a nap, a long hot shower, or treating [herself] to [her] favorite restaurant.”

Since I agreed with her methods I decided to check another student for different solutions to the problem of stress on campus.

Austin Fischer, another classmate and fellow senior at Rutgers University – New Brunswick, says that “having an escape from school work is important. For [him], it’s making music. For someone else, it could be drawing or making websites; either way, it’s good to have an escape from the constant stress.”

Personally, besides napping and going to my favorite restaurant, I do not use these methods. For me, I like to work on personal video projects, play PlayStation 4, and go to the bar when all the studying is done. All work and no play makes anyone dull. Being dull can be just as bad for an individual’s future as getting bad grades.

The next time you wish to take my route with stress coping on campus in New Brunswick, hit one of the bars. I recommend Stuff Yer Face, Brother Jimmy’s Barbeque, Olive Branch (for closest proximity to college ave), Olde Queens Tavern, or any of the other great bars located on Easton Avenue and George Street.
